Master of Science in Financial Engineering

(By distance learning)

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Intake

The distance learning MSc in Financial Engineering has one intake per year, with candidates joining the program in July every year.

Duration of the Program

The minimum period of candidature is 18 months.

The maximum period of candidature is 4 years

Semesters

The program operates on the 2 regular University Semesters I and II from

July-November, and January-April, and also on the special term from May-July.

The financial Engineering project may be taken in any semester or term.

STRUCTURE FOR JULY

The on-line application is not available. You can download the application form from our website and send the completed form with the required documents to us before the closing date.

The following fee structure applies:

Application fee: SGD50

Admission fee: SGD1000 payable once on admission (will be credited towards the payment of tuition for the first semester)

TUITION

SGD28,600 for non-citizens and non-permanent residents.

*Non-citizens and non-permanent residents will pay an additional 10%.

DEADLINE

Decision Notice time:

Admission decision will be sent to your home address some time in May every year.

ESSAY

State your objectives for obtaining the MSc (Financial Engineering).

RECOMMENDATION

2 referees’ reports are required.

1. How long have you known the applicant and in what capacity?

2. The Selection Committee would appreciate your comments on the applicant’s academic strengths, ability to complete a graduate program, and potential to become a responsible and successful finance professional.

The report should be sealed and singed across the seal on the envelope flap.

You are required to submit the referees’ reports to us as part of your completed application package

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Good 4-year undergraduate degree or an honours degree.

GMAT or GRE:

Please request ETS to send the official score report direct to the NUS Risk Management Institute.

- For GRE, our institution code is 0677, department code is 0799.

TOEFL:

If English is not the medium of instruction in your undergraduate studies, TOEFL score is required

Our institution code is 9087 and department code is 99.

Relevant work experience will be an advantage

We welcome applications from candidates with several years of work experience.

However, work experience is not a must.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Intake

The NUS MFE program has one intake per year, with candidates joining in July every year. This program is offered as a full time program, a part time program as well as a distance learning program.

Duration of the Program

The minimum and maximum periods of candidature are 18 months and 4 years for the part time and distance learning students. The minimum and maximum periods of candidature are 1 year and 2 years for full time students.

Curriculum

To graduate from the program, each candidate is required to complete 40 modular credits or ten modules. Of these, 7 are core (compulsory) modules and one compulsory financial engineering project equivalent to 4 modular credits. There are 2 elective modules to be chosen out of 8, although some electives may not be offered every year.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

*Good 4-year undergraduate degree or an honours degree.

*Good GMAT or GRE* score.

*Good TOEFL* score if English was not the medium of instruction in undergraduate studies.
